Description: Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9 / 40 Recoil Spring Assembly. This durable, steel constructed, recoil spring assembly is a factory original part from Smith & Wesson. The assembly is designed for the M&P Shield 9 / 40 models of pistols from Smith & Wesson chambered in 9mm & .40 S&W respectively. The recoil guide rod assembly helps mitigate the felt recoil of the pistol when fired and absorbs much of the backward force along with helping to cycle the firearm. This assembly is perfect for use in an emergency replacement stash and can be great to have in the spare parts chest. This item is proudly made in the USA by Smith & Wesson.

I had purchased an aftermarket spring many years ago. My slide was failing to return all the way. I replaced it with this stock assembly, and the gun now cycles perfectly. I bought a second one just to have on hand in case of another failure. Inexpensive, but essential. Works perfectly.

Recoil springs should be replaced after so many thousand rounds. These shield recoil springs are hard to find. Midwest GunWorks had them and that’s great! I will shop with them again.

When i field stripped the gun for initial cleaning the spring that came with the gun was sticking out at the end of the coil and there was no tweaking it. It was making the slide not rack when reassembling. No way I was putting rounds in the gun and chancing it. New recoil spring and problem solved
