Browning Buck Mark History

The Buck Mark .22 Caliber Pistol was introduced in 1985 and is still in production today. It is made in the U.S.A.

In 1975 Browning standardized its serial number identification which it followed until 1998.

  1. Buck Mark Type: 655=Buck Mark Pistol
  2. Date of Manufacture is a two digit code:
    Z=1, Y=2, X=3, W=4, V=5, T=6, R=7, P=8, N=9, M=0
  3. Serial Number beginning with 01001 at the start of each year.

Serial Number Example:

655PV01001

This would be a Buck Mark pistol, manufactured in 1985 with the serial number 01001.
1998

In 1998 Browning redid the standardization of its serial number identifications.

  1. Buck Mark Type: 515 = All Buck Mark Models
  2. Date of Manufacture is a two digit code:
    Z=1, Y=2, X=3, W=4, V=5, T=6, R=7, P=8, N=9, M=0
  3. Serial Number beginning with 01001 at the start of each year.

Serial Number Example:

515NN01001

This would be a Buck Mark pistol, manufactured in 1999 with the serial number 01001.

If anyone has the problem of "T" in his review, that's not how this part is meant to work. On a pre-92 Buck Mark pistol, this washer doesn't go into the recessed screw hole in the sight base , it goes UNDER the sight, sandwiched between it and the frame post. Expensive, sure, but necessary to make the sight base sit at the proper height to clear the bolt- assuming you have a pre-92 Buck Mark. HTH!

The sight base has a counter sunk hole but this is just a normal lock washer which is made for a flat surface. The washer does not sit in the counter sink hole properly and does not allow the screw to thread in fully. To top it off, the price is exorbitant for regular old lock washer. Perhaps other Buckmark pistols are different but I cannot recommend this product.
