THe firing pin safety spring retains tension to the firing pin safety within the slide assembly. Purchased a Five Seven safety firing pin spring as a spare since the reports on the web say they can launch into the sky never to be found. Glad I did as removing it was no problem, but in trying to replace it, it did launch never to be found. Glad I had the spare which went in fine the second time around.
