My 1970 Ruger M-77 in 7mm Rem Mag with a #601 Timney tang safety trigger.

I wanted to drop my trigger weight and the #601 Timney trigger for the early rear tang safety models is rated at 1.5 pounds to 3 pounds and is adjustable. I had mine installed as I had read some reviews about some people having a mushy safety when the did their own installs and I absolutely did not want a mushy safety! A superb job was done and I have a nice crisp safety but I wanted it set light as possible on the pull weight. I have a Wheeler Engineering digital trigger pull scale and it arrived set at 3pounds 0 ounces. I backed the pressure clear off and slowly started to turn the screw back in. The trigger finally held the bolt cocked at eleven ounces! but the rifle could easily be fired by slam firing the butt stock against the ground. I finally got no more slam fires when slamming the stock against the ground that I was sure I would break the stock if I tried any harder. Final setting on my trigger? 1 pound and 4 ounces or 1.25 pounds. I am very pleased with this result and it is only around a $140 trigger. I highly recommend for your early Ruger. :D
