Straight from Beretta, this factory original component is designed for 12, 20, 28 gauge or .410 bore Beretta 680 series shotgun models, like the 687. The lock screw is installed into a properly indexed trigger plate screw (if tapped for a lock screw) to doubly secure the trigger plate and eliminate and creep or backing out. The screw is made to the same high quality standards as you would expect from Beretta.
