From performance upgrades for 3 gunners and water fowlers to restoration and repair work for some of the finest collectable shotguns ever produced. We are confident our team can help with any shotgun work you may need. Below you will find many different shotgun services and jobs MGW offers.
General Shotgun Repair / Clean & Inspect
MGW offers general shotgun repair and both OEM and aftermarket parts replacement and fitting. Broken Part? Lost spring? MGW stocks thousands of brand name parts both OEM and aftermarket performance upgrade parts. General Repair is billed at hourly rate plus part costs. $125.00 per hour.
Shotgun Recoil Pad Installation (Does not include custom length)
No Matter the reason you are adding or replacing a recoil pad, done properly the new pad will fit clean and flush. The stocks heel and toe will meet the new recoil pad with a tight flush finish where the base of the pad's lines are uninterrupted and the pad will look as an extension of the stock. MGW installs hundreds of recoil pads per year both OEM and aftermarket upgraded recoil pads from manufacturers such as Pachmayr and Kick-Eez. * Pad & Spacers Sold Separately
Shotgun Trigger Work - Reduce Pull (Semi and Pump Only)
A customized trigger system allows for less creep, a more defined trigger squeeze and a lighter trigger pull. All of which will increase accuracy and ease of use. This is a must have for serious shooters, or for newer shooters looking to up their game.
Shotgun Center Sight Install (Mid-Rib)
Traditionally installed on Target model shotguns, Center Sights (or Mid-Beads) offer an additional point of reference to align you shotgun before taking your shot. MGW can install a center bead on any barrel with a rib. Offering many different style beads, we are confident we will find the perfect bead to suit your shooting needs.
Shotgun Inertia to Mechanical Trigger Conversion (Over/Under Only)
Sometimes using a light target load or small bore barrel or tube set causes an Over/Under shotgun to not automatically reset for the next shot. This is usually because the firearm was originally manufactured to reset under recoil or Inertia. Changing this over to set by mechanical means can mean the difference between that missed broken clay or follow up shot on upland birds. We also see this happen when the firearm is lightly shouldered or heavy padded clothing is worn in cold weather. This is done by altering the inertia block and connecter system. No parts are added or removed.
Shotgun Adjustable Comb Install
One of the most cost effective ways to achieve proper gun fit without the expense of a custom made stock is with an adjustable comb. Everyone is built differently and has a different hold point. An Adjustable Comb allows the shooter to tailor the stock to his or her own dimensions. Often times the proper adjustment will allow the shooter less cheek slap and softer recoil allowing them to stay on target throughout the swing. MGW utilizes Graco Corp brand hardware for left, right and height adjustments.
Shotgun Complete Rebuild Action. (Over/Under)
Very few shops across the country know double guns like MGW. We take pride in rebuilding Over/Under shotguns. It is a time intensive job that most will not attempt. We re-build both competition and hunting models that have extensive use and round counts. In most cases it is a complete tear down and a process of welding the locking bolt and surface grinding back to the proper dimensions. Refitting the locking bolt and resetting and tightening of the hinge surfaces, timing the ejectors and replacing top lever and mainsprings are all part of the job as well. Typically when finished the firearm will be tight, the top lever in the right hand position and require a break in period too, much like when it was factory new.
Soldering is hard. Soldering a vent rib and side ribs on a very valuable Over/Under shotgun that has over 25 contact points and show little sign of solder line is harder. MGW has the art of soldering vent ribs on shotgun barrels down pretty well. We are one of the few that will still even attempt such a task. For those of you that know about this type of work you know how time consuming and difficult it is. In many cases a vintage shotgun used a soft solder originally on the barrels and after 50 years of shooting it has given up. We can address both top vent rib and side or bottom rib (SXS Shotguns). All Shotgun barrel solder work will require bluing as well.
Not all shotguns if any are going to "Fit" the shooter out of the box. Everyone is built differently and will require a stock that has some adjustability options. MGW can install a number of different Graco Systems to change LOP (Length of Pull) Cast, Cant, Height and Recoil Suppression. Having the correct stock fit will certainly make shotgun sports more enjoyable and comfortable as well as help make you a better shooter.
Jeweling, or engine turned as some may still call it, adds a classic & elegant look to any fine shotgun. Many shotguns had areas on the firearm that utilized jeweling. The ejectors, barrel lugs, carrier, bolt or water table area of SXS shotguns. Jeweling is mainly done on shotguns that have faded or worn jeweled areas or after re-bluing or polishing in areas that have to be re-applied. Jeweling can be done to most any metal surfaces that it is desired.
MGW fits OEM and aftermarket stocks on almost all models. When fitting a wood stock on a shotgun it is very important to have the recoil only taken up at the center most back of the stock. Inletting the stock so that the contact points around the edges of the receiver are minimal on all shotguns is very important. Even more so with O/U models. Some stocks can be very expensive and proper fitting can avoid irreversible damage.
Shotgun Hydraulic Barrel Dent Removal (12 & 20 Gauge ONLY)
It is bound to happen. Getting a dent in an expensive (sometimes irreplaceable) shotgun barrel will happen. In many cases this can be fixed with the proper tools and methods. Depending on where the dent or dents are located MGW can usually take them out using a hydraulic dent raiser. In some cases we can also turn down brass plugs to exact bore diameter and with heat push dents out as well. Typically rebluing the barrel is a must after heat is used and dents in areas that have threads for choke tubes can be problematic. Shoot us an email if you are interested in having this performed with details of the problem. We will get right back with you on how we can help.
Shotgun Install Sling Eyelet (Stock or Forearm)
Installing a Shotgun sling swivel using the right tools will ensure a perfectly positioned, straight and centered eyelet counter sunk to factory dimensions.
Really nothing compares to a fine Over/Under that has been Color Case Hardened. Both on the timeless classics like Parker, LC and Fox guns to today's Browning Citori and Beretta Over/Unders. In our opinion the best thing that comes with this service is that no two are alike. If you would like to inquire about this service please send us an email with details of the project. And we will get back with you right away. *This service is done on a very select bases. Due to high heat and temps involved we must have complete firearm for final fitting of parts.
