Production of the BT-100 single barrel trap shotgun began in 1995. It is no longer in production.
The information below is critical must have knowledge necessary for ordering parts, wood, and barrels for your Browning BT-100
- Locating Your Serial Number
The true complete serial number of the BT-100 can only be found underneath of the TOP LEVER. All other numbers represent production sequence only and are used by the factory to denote what barrel set is paired with an individual receiver. See figure 1-A to locate the top lever on your firearm.
- Reading Your Serial Number
Below use the chart to determine the manufacture year of your BT-100
Historic Information Serial Number Info 1995-1997 In 1976 Browning re-standardized its serial number identification. This was used until 1998.
- Serial Number beginning with 01001 at the start of each year.
- Date of Manufacture is a two digit code:
Z=1, Y=2, X=3, W=4, V=5, T=6, R=7, P=8, N=9, M=0 - BT-100 Type:
H99=12 ga. Grade 1
J99-12 ga. Stainless Steel Receiver
Serial Number Example:
01001NVH99
This would be an BT-100 12 ga. Grade 1 shotgun, manufactured in 1995 with the serial number 01001.
1998-Present In 1976 Browning re-standardized its serial number identification. The BT-99 was discontinued in 1995.
- BT-100 Type: 171=BT-100
- Date of Manufacture is a two digit code:
Z=1, Y=2, X=3, W=4, V=5, T=6, R=7, P=8, N=9, M=0 - Serial Number beginning with 01001 at the start of each year.
Serial Number Example:
01001NN171
This would be a BT-100 shotgun, manufactured in 1999 with the serial number 01001.

Historic Information Serial Number Info 1968-75 1969 started using two digits for the date of manufacture and the following code:
D=BT-99
The serial number began with 1000 for each year.
Example: 0001D69 = A 1969 BT-99 shotgun with a serial number of 0001.
D=BT-99
1976-Present In 1976 Browning re-standardized its serial number identification. The BT-99 was discontinued in 1995.

Serial Number Example:
01001RT149
This would be an BT-99 shotgun, manufactured in 1976 with the serial number 01001.
- Determining Tang Style
All BT-99 shotguns produced from 1968 through 1995 were equipped with a "Long Tang" trigger guard. All BT-99 shotguns produced from 2001 through the present are equipped with a "Short Tang" trigger guard. Please see figure 1-B for help determining "Long" and "Short" tang.
